Hi everyone..i am new here. I was diagnosed with Giant cell tumor of the T6 last December after months of back pain. Operated in January 6th this year. They managed to remove almost all of the visible tumors. Anyway i met my surgeon last week, he ...
Not sure why they didn't bone graft and cage up the empty space for you. Might ask your orthopedic surgeon. I'm on denosumab, an experimental drug study provided by Amgen Corporation. (Ask your oncologist). It was worked miracles! My reccurrances and metastasis are under control, but not gone. Good luck to you. I hated back surgery, and it is still hard for me to remember that part of my life without reliving it also
hi minn! i had a follow-up mri last week and it showed that everything is healing nicely and the remaining tumor seems to have shrunk following radiation. i guess that means it worked (so far).
hope your tiredness gets better soon. i was more tired than usual for several weeks after radiation finished, but not too bad. feel better soon!
hi minn, thanks for the comment! you are the first ever person i've "met" that also has gct of the thoracic spine. i hope your recovery is going well.
i did radiation therapy earlier this year - it was a really tough decision for me (as i'm sure it was for you) because of the potential long-term side effects, and the lack of data on the success rate - but my doctors all recommended that radiation would be the best way to avoid recurrence.
it seemed to go well, thankfully i had surprisingly few side effects and was able to work full time throughout treatment. i have a follow up mri in two weeks to see if the tumor has grown any since then. hoping for good news!
take care and good luck with everything.
I had mine in SGH.
6 months after my operation, I started to exercise. I makes me feel great. Now I took it rather seriously. I swim and jog. Before that I ride on stationary bicycle.
Hope you get well soon. :P
Hope the radiotherapy going well , dont underestimate how tired u will be after and how low ur immunity will be . I have gone back to work now but it did take a lot out of me , keep smiling xx
Hi Minn. I'm Vanessa. I had a sacral giant cell tumor. I saw your question on Lauren's page about radiation. I had a number of embolizations first. It grew out of control so I went to another hospital (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NY). They are amazing there.
I did have radiation first. It killed the tumor, and my surgeon said that it would decrease the chance of recurrence. I had my sacrum removed, and I have rods and screws too. So far, I have been without recurrence (thank goodness) since my surgery in August of 2007.
I wish you the best of luck in your recovery! Take good care. -And don't forget to celebrate your daily vicotories.
Hey Minn! I am all set to have mine this week!! I am so ready, how is your recovery? I hope it's going well! I haven't talked to my surgeons at all about the treatment afterward, I will def let you know! Thank so much for commenting, I am out of the door right now for an apt, sorry about the short message. Thanks!

I'm from Sarawak. I didn't have my radiation.
How're you now?
Keep us all informed. All the best and pray hard.
Yes, I agree with Vanessa, "don't forget to celebrate your daily vicotories."
I had been doing that and I feel great.
