About Me:
Just received the diagnosis of GCT today. At this point I have only had an MRI. I know that it is in the top of one of the bones right below my left knee. I am being sent to an ortho doc in Chapel Hill next week. So, any info you may have at this time I definitely will appreciate. I have been on the internet today trying to educate myself. I am concerned as to what my future entails now especially since I have a 15 month old daughter. So far my reading has been a little scary. I look forward to talking with all of the members on this site.

UPDATE: Had the GCT removed on 9-8-08. Removed with curettage and filled with bone cement. Still waiting for the biopsy report. So far so good. No pain, just stuck with a leg brace, so my movement is limited. Go back for a check up on the 17th.

Had my 1st surgery!

Hello all. I had my GCT removed from my proximal tibia on the 8th at Chapel Hill. It was 5x5x4cm. They scraped it out and filled it with bone cement. I stayed for one night and have been hanging out on the couch ever since. We still do not have the biopsy results yet. So far the pain has not been bad. I got a femoral block for pain the night of the surgery and they gave me percocet. I stopped taking the percocet on Thursday night and so far no more pain. I have a leg brace on and it is driving m… Continue

Well I am glad you are getting it taken care of quickly. You will just have to see how your recovery goes to see if you can pull your full 12 hour shift after just 6 weeks. My best advice is to keep a positive attitude, it really helps get you through. Ok, that and a couple of pain pills a day for the first couple of weeks. Ha! :) Keep me posted. I will be thinking of you on the big day.

Hi Susen - my initial tumor was in the left proximal tibia. It was about the size of a large egg. It was removed with high speed cutterage and filled with bone cement. The first surgery went very smooth, no complications. It was the first surgery I had ever had, so pain was a new thing for me. My incision healed very fast and I didn't have any complications from surgery. I was on crutches for 2 months and walking very slowly for the next couple of months, but I did some light physical therapy at home and recovered fully. After I healed from my first surgery, I could still jog, go up and down stairs and was unrestricted in my activities.

Keep me updated on the result of your MRI and what your doctor says. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. I've been there, done that, so please contact me anytime you need support.

Hi, Susen. I'm so glad you found our site. Most of time, newly diagnosed GCT patients don't have anyone who has experience with these tumors to talk to. Having a community, however small, definitely helps.

I can understand you being scared. I also have a small child, and getting diagnosed as a mother was definitely a scary thing. I don't know what your future with this tumor holds, but I can tell you that we are all here if you need to talk or have questions. The road ahead of you will be tough, but we can all tell you what our experiences have been, and can hopefully offer you some friendly support.

Thanks so much for joining. If you want to, please keep up up to date on your treatment plan. Chances are, whatever treatment your doctor plans will be one that some of us have had before. Thanks again!
