Not that it should be tantamount for winning an award or anything, but I'm just a wee but curious as to how many recurrences people have had?
Personally, I'm on #8. Will have my 13th surgery for GCT on 8/04/09. It kinda sucks because each of the last three summers I've been ill or have had surgery. The madness needs to stop!
Can i just say wow 8!! thats alot, fingers crossed iv had no recurrence & i hope i dont get any tho i am waiting on results of a MRI as im still not fully recovered from my op so they suspect one.
Good luck on your next op & lets hope its your last one. Take care. xxx
Actually, now the doctors are saying if they did another curretage procedure, the leg bone wouldn't be strong enough to handle it. So, instead, they are going to revise my knee replacement and then take off the top 1/4 of the tibia where the tumors/cement are, and replace THAT with donor bone. Thus eliminating the tumors forever!
Hi All,
Well - I had my first one removed January 2008, now, a year and a half later - it's back, in the same place. I was SOOOO hoping to be one of the 4 out of 5 for whom it doesn't recur. Just set up the latest round of MRIs and bone scans...and feeling bummed. Still - I've had excellent care at MGH - and this was always a potential danger, I knew that. I can't help that I was hoping the ache in my knee (my tumor was on my distal left femur) was arthritis from all this crappy rainy weather.
So - recurrances? One. Praying that it's only one.

hi sara, i know how you feel! ive had two recurrences now, in bone and tissue in my right top tibia, and now ive got a itchy swelling around the scar tissue so maybe onto my third.. i hate it as it takes all my summers away and being stuck in recovering is a bummer!
ive got a scan due on monday so fingers crossed!
Good luck x L
Hi guys, new to site & am trying to find out recurrence stats for GCT. My daughter is 14 & had her sugery
in March. There seems to be little info out there on this, especially for a teenager.
Sara, so sorry that you are going through this again.

Hi Laura I have had no recurecnces so far I had tumor in left distal femur. My dr says that 15 % return in the site& 2% return in the lung. He told me last time That 95% gct come back in 2 years. I hope your daughter will be free of tumor. of course when you are 1 in a million that get gct. Stats do not mean a lot. If you are that one . But my dr says If recurrences happen It can be treated . It is so much better than the first dr told me I had osteosarcoma. Good Luck Carol
